Introducing this year’s theme…

Moving Love Through the Body!

2023 Season

The Washington heights Womanist Arts Festival is the reflection of a community back at itself.

It is the continued tradition of Black women calling forth their kin to bandage wounds in collective spirit. This Festival is harnessing the dopeness of our local artists as a site for shared healing through song, movement, truth telling and the act of breaking bread.

Inspired by the wisdom of Alice Walker’s ‘In Search of Our Mothers Garden’, the core of our intent is an expression of care. Healing through the performing arts, soul-care and food as remedy and connection, highlighting the magic of Uptown NYC.

Following a joyous and cathartic inaugural festival, our intention in 2023 is to serve our Uptown community with not only the Festival in the fall, but also four seasonal dinners centered around the solstice and equinox gathering neighbors North and South of the GW Bridge and East and West of Broadway!

To be a Womanist is… To care about the nourishing, futurity, and wellbeing of every person.
